GigaFlow allows you poll your flow emitting devices via SNMPv3 to get information like up/down status, interface names, interface speeds, and CAM and ARP tables.  But what do we do if there is a problem.  Here is the way that SNMPv3 in GigaFlow works and how you can resolve it:

Reason for Issue:

  • SNMPv3 credentials are timing out.
  • GigaFlow enters ‘auto-discover credentials’ mode.
  • Credential changes only if the device has multiple SNMP authentication secrets.
  • GigaFlow discovers starting with SNMPv2 credentials

Applying Credentials to a Device:

  1. Create SNMP Global Credentials:
    • Auto-discover which credential works.
    • Manually set the credential.
  2. Manual Entry:
    • Enter SNMP information per device.

Polling Behavior:

  1. If polling fails, GigaFlow tries other SNMP Global Credentials.
  2. If all fail, it keeps the original configuration.
  3. Without Global Credentials, it retries the same credential after 1 hour.

Credential Management:

  1. GigaFlow tries all SNMPv2 credentials first, then SNMPv3.
  2. It validates credentials by performing an SNMP walk on the system uptime OID.
  3. Timeout period is 1 hour before retrying different credentials.

Purpose:

  • Centralize credential changes without manual updates on each device.
